Dear Saṅga,

On this auspicious blue moon, I’d like to invite you into a simple but meaningful reflection:

What is rare and sacred in my life right now that deserves my full attention?

A blue moon is rare. It arrives quietly, but somehow it asks something of us. It reminds us that not everything precious appears often. Some things in life are uncommon. Some moments carry a significance that asks to be noticed. And perhaps one of life’s quietest tragedies is not losing what matters all at once, but slowly overlooking it while our attention is pulled in too many directions.

Life today can so easily draw us into becoming machines. We move from one responsibility to the next, meeting deadlines, chasing goals, trying to keep up with the pace around us. We tell ourselves that if we work harder or move faster, eventually everything will feel clear and meaningful. But often the opposite happens. We become busy, yet disconnected. Full on the outside, but distant from what is truly essential.

And when that happens, we can lose touch with the sacredness of being human—the warmth of meaningful relationships, the gift of being present, the grace of love, and the quiet beauty of simply being alive.

I say this personally because I know this experience well.

In my twenties and thirties, I lost myself in that race for a time. I got caught up in the illusions of ego—trying to become, trying to prove, trying to hold everything together. Looking back, I can see how much of my energy was spent chasing things that felt urgent but were not truly important.

And in that process, I drifted away from some precious connections with people in my own family. That remains one of my deepest regrets.

Life taught me something humbling through that experience: we can appear successful and accomplished on the outside, while quietly losing touch with what matters most in the heart.

It was only when I began returning more sincerely to my dharma that things became clearer. My priorities softened and sharpened at the same time. What truly mattered became easier to recognise. The noise lost some of its power. And life began to feel more human again—more meaningful, more grounded, and more alive.

This human life is rare beyond words.

To be here. To feel deeply. To love. To learn. To heal. To awaken.

Under this rare blue moon, may we pause long enough to remember what is sacred. And may we have the courage to give it our full attention.

Namaste!

The Viniyoga® community continues to grow internationally, with two important milestones unfolding across Asia this year.

The Fourth Module of the Viniyoga Therapy Training in Japan recently concluded, marking another meaningful step in a journey dedicated to healing, self-understanding, and the transmission of authentic teachings. Each module deepens participants’ capacity to apply Yoga therapeutically by integrating body, breath, mind, and spirit. This module focused on in-depth studies of Āyurveda and Yogacikitsā for various ailments, as well as a detailed study of adapting Āsanas for healing and health. The continued commitment of the Japanese saṅga reflects the growing interest in individualised and holistic approaches to wellbeing rooted in the Viniyoga tradition.

His Master’s Voice | Patañjali's Yogasūtra

Yogasūtra II.23 - sva-svāmi-śaktyoḥ svarūpa-upalabdhi-hetuḥ saṁyogaḥ

The intimate union [between the Seer and the seen] exists in order that their own true nature is realised.

In Yogasūtra II.17, Patañjali said that suffering is caused by the intimate relationship between the Seer and the Seen. However, here he implies that this suffering may be a great teacher, for it can reveal the true nature of both. The more we engage in any relationship responsibly, the more we learn about ourselves. Similarly, when Puruṣa and Prakṛti are in a long-term relationship, their true nature is eventually revealed. This is the benefit of their union.

A Ridiculed Idea

“Are you teaching technical drawing or Yoga?” mocked one of Desikachar’s colleagues when he first saw Desikachar’s stick figures. “This is not going to work. People are not going to like it, understand it, or use it. You are wasting your time.”

Faced with criticism, many might have abandoned the idea. However, Desikachar’s unwavering resolve marked a turning point. He quietly persevered, refining what would become an influential educational tool in modern Yoga. What began as a peculiar experiment soon reshaped how Yoga practices were remembered, transmitted, and taught worldwide.

Sir TKV Desikachar, using his innovative stick drawings to teach!

Desikachar’s motivation did not stem from a desire to modernise Yoga for novelty's sake. It came from a very practical observation. Again and again, he noticed that students struggled to remember the practices that he or his father had carefully prescribed for them. Even sincere students who attended regularly would return confused about the exact order of postures, the positioning of the limbs, the breathing ratios, or the variations specifically adapted for them.

“Too much information!” or “Too much to remember!” students would often exclaim.

The Problem of Remembering Practice

This challenge became especially evident because the Viniyoga approach emphasised individualised practice. Unlike rigid group systems in which everyone repeated the same sequence, Desikachar and Krishnamacharya often adapted practices to…

Since the COVID pandemic, many people have begun taking a more active and conscious role in their own health and well-being. There has been a noticeable shift in how we relate to healing—not simply looking outward for solutions, but seeking a deeper understanding of how to build resilience, restore balance, and support long-term well-being from within. More than ever, people are recognising that true health is not just the absence of illness, but a dynamic relationship between body, breath, mind, and the way we live.

The upcoming Viniyoga® Therapy Training in Brussels speaks directly to this growing need.

Rooted in the authentic tradition of Professor T. Krishnamacharya and TKV Desikachar, and taught through the living lineage of Viniyoga®, this training offers a profound and practical pathway into the therapeutic application of Yoga. It combines personalised movement, breathwork, philosophy, chanting, and therapeutic principles in a way that honours the uniqueness of each individual. Rather than applying one method to everyone, Viniyoga teaches us to adapt the tools of Yoga intelligently and compassionately to the needs of the individual.

This training is designed for Yoga teachers, therapists, healthcare professionals, and sincere practitioners who wish to deepen their understanding of holistic healing. Whether your intention is to support others more skilfully, or to enrich your own personal journey, the programme offers a rare opportunity for meaningful transformation—both personally and professionally.

In a world increasingly shaped by stress, burnout, anxiety, and disconnection, the need for thoughtful and individualised approaches to healing has never been greater. Viniyoga® offers a path of self-awareness, empowerment, and conscious care—helping us reconnect with our inner resources and respond to life with greater clarity and steadiness.

If you feel called to explore Yoga as a genuine healing tradition and wish to study within a lineage-based and deeply experiential training, we warmly invite you to join us in Brussels for this special journey.

with Mrs Menaka Desikachar and Dr Kausthub Desikachar

In today’s fast-paced and often overwhelming world, many people are searching for something essential: a way to reconnect with their inner voice.

There is so much noise around us—constant information, endless opinions, and the pressure to keep up with a world that rarely slows down. Yet often the loudest noise can be within: the restless movement of the mind, old patterns, self-doubt, uncertainty, and the many competing voices that pull us away from our centre. Over time, it becomes easy to lose touch with our own natural clarity. We may hear everything around us and still feel disconnected from the voice that truly belongs to us.

Pilgrimage of Sound — Finding Your Inner Voice is an invitation to return to that inner place of listening.

Rooted in the Viniyoga® tradition and guided by the profound role of sound within this lineage, the pilgrimage explores the transformative power of chanting, sacred sound, silence, breath, and presence. Sound in this tradition is not merely something we hear or produce—it is something we experience deeply. It has the power to focus the mind, soften the heart, steady the breath, and awaken an inner resonance that reconnects us to ourselves.

Memories from the Viniyoga International Conference of 2025! Join us in 2027!

Through shared practice, deep listening, and time together in a meaningful community, participants are invited to explore not only their own relationship with sound, but also the voice of Viniyoga in the world—and the world’s voice within Viniyoga. It is an opportunity to listen more carefully, practise more deeply, and discover what becomes possible when sound is approached as both discipline and devotion.

More than a retreat or conference, Pilgrimage of Sound is a journey into clarity, connection, and inner resonance.

It is an invitation to pause amidst the noise, to listen beneath the surface, and to rediscover the voice that has always been there—steady, clear, and deeply your own.

We warmly invite you to join us for this special gathering and experience the transformative power of sound in the heart of the Viniyoga tradition.
